Providing Career Guidance at ILG

At Inspired Learning Group, we recognise the significance of exposing pupils to a diverse range of career possibilities throughout their educational journey. We believe in preparing children for success by equipping them with the necessary tools and ensuring that they are aware of post-education opportunities. Regular careers events, workshops and external speakers are invited in by schools across the group, to motivate and inspire pupils to begin considering their next steps.

Career guidance at ILG schools

Senior schools at ILG focus on career development as pupils progress through their studies and approach university. St. Francis’ College and Rookwood School both recently held career fairs for their senior pupils.

Rookwood’s ‘Ambitions Day’ was open to pupils from Year 7 to Sixth Form, and featured many guest speakers, including an alumni who is now a commercial pilot. Pupils also heard from institutions such as The University of Winchester, who provided an engaging seminar on education and career options that are available after graduation.

It is never too early to begin inspiring our pupils. Our Prep Schools often hold career events of their own, such as Danesfield Manor School who recently held a careers day. Parents gave informative talks on their occupations, and guided children through interactive activities related to their fields. Featured careers ranged from lawyers, to scientists and graphic designers.

Feedback from pupils was overwhelmingly positive:

‘I really, really, really enjoyed all of the parents coming in and finding out about the things they did!’ Year 5 Student.

Teaching key skills

In addition to career guidance, ILG schools ensure that our pupils leave education prepared by teaching them important life skills that will contribute to their future successes. A financial management workshop was recently held this term at Essendene Lodge School, as part of Year 6 PSHE curriculum. Pupils had a valuable session of insights, learning about managing income, and receiving advice on issues that they may face as they grow up.

St. Francis’ College’s career convention also highlighted key skills to their Year 9 cohort, including sessions providing valuable knowledge in areas such as preparing for a job interview, or navigating university and apprenticeship applications.
