A partnership to learn, educate and make a difference.
Mrs Kishwar Ali, Headteacher of Essendene Lodge Prep School, and Mrs Jo Smith, Headteacher of Danesfield Manor School, are embarking on a journey to Malawi in May. The trip is being funded by the Inspired Learning Group, a leading provider of independent schools in the UK.
The two headteachers will be visiting Msalura Primary School in Salima to understand the challenges faced by the locals and identify ways in which they can make a difference. Essendene Lodge School has been in partnership with the Msalura Malawi Primary School since 2011 and has undertaken fundraising ever since, most recently a bake sale raising over £600. Previous fundraising includes a Gala Dinner raising over £5,000 and the school has also directly supported through sending sanitary packs, toys and books. Msalura Primary School is a large urban primary school which provides education to over 1,500 pupils daily. Class sizes are often more than 70 pupils. Teaching facilities and resources are basic and for years, the school could not provide more than the most essential sanitation.
The two ILG schools are currently aiming to reach a target of £5000 to enable them to build a classroom block to replace the ones that were devastated in last year’s floods. The funds will also aid other projects, mainly to provide soap within the school, provide water tanks for hygiene purposes and provide school equipment.
